Who We Are

After a regional health summit in 2017, featuring presenters from FaithHealth North Carolina, key community stakeholders from a variety of industries gathered to launch the FaithHealth model in Appalachia, starting in Huntington, WV. Formed in 2018 as an initiative of Cabell Huntington Hospital and incorporated as an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2020, FHA brings together caring partners across the faith communities, medical facilities, and social services systems to better address health inequities and improve the total wellness of our neighbors.

Based on a model of shared learning and trust, the organization has proactively addressed issues impacting the changing health care landscape, including food insecurity, social isolation, and transportation. We refer to our clients as “neighbors,” based upon the model given to us to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Neighbors are connected to needed resources through Community Connectors using Right Door, Right Time principles.

The purpose of FaithHealth Appalachia (FHA) is not to be the provider, but the connector and facilitator of resources to ensure no duplication or competition occurs. We believe our mission is fulfilled when others fulfill their missions, and our vision is to see a greater collaborative effort of the faith communities, medical facilities, and social services systems in the Huntington, WV and greater Tri-State area.
